he could hear her talking to herself, trying to reassure herself to get over the fear like many of his troops had so often done when they were in the lowest ranks. he understood. sometimes talking to yourself helped you work through things and he did it often. he had to do it because he couldn't show fear so mentally he just talked to himself. it was good for people. as she thanked him he gave a short nod of his head. "not a problem." he said, before nudging her towards the stage and watching carefully.
when she began to play a smile came to his face, tiny, but still there. he disappeared outside, where the crowd was, to watch her in action. he knew he was right. most musicians weren't confident with themselves if they had never played live before. he had to reassure quite a few newbies that played at the venue, and he thought he was getting rather good at it considering how long he had done it for.
the girl finished and he moved backstage to greet her. he was lost in a sea of russian babble about how he told her so, how good she did, and how she shouldn't have doubted herself before he realized he'd done it again. he cleared his throat and wiped the almost smile off his face, clearing his throat. "did good." he said befor shrugging. "told you." he said in a nearly playful tone.

"Thank you, again. For pushing me to do that. I really needed it." She placed a hand on his shoulder and then headed down the steps out of the everyone else's way. Lauren looked up at Ryken and smiled faintly. It was true, it was something she needed to do, more for herself than anything. After a while you get tired of doing what everyone else tells you what and what not to do. It's exhausting. You get so caught up in the whirlwind of what's expected and what's becoming of you and you lose yourself in the madness. The person you once thought you were begins to fade away. She knew she didn't want to be a fashion designer, she knew that loud and clear. She wanted to be a musician no matter how hard she had to work. When that adrenaline rush hit her on stage, it was obvious that was the path that she was meant to take. Lauren Anderson, the musician.
"I'm guessing you have to go now and get back to work. It looks like they might need you up there." She was always one of those people putting other's needs ahead of her own. After all she was a Debutant, what would you expect? Nodding toward the stage, she crossed her arms and twirled a strand of her wavy hair. Whether this man knew it or not he had helped her through a lot as much as she'd denied it in the beginning. Maybe this was a new chapter in her life. One where she could actually consider being happy this time around. If anything it's a start and that's what counts. You have to do what you love in life because you only get one chance. You get one life to live out your dreams and be what you want to be. Why should anyone stop you?

he nodded as she thanked him again and wondered why she felt the need to keep doing that. he really didn't do anything all that special. they had time to fill anyways before the next band, so she was actually doing them a favor considering they needed the distraction from the big set change. the final band was going to be coming on, and he wasn't too happy to be getting off. he didn't have anything to do afterwards, like always, so he'd probably just hang out and help clean up. he didn't mind if he didn't get paid for it. what else would he do? hang with his dying grandmother? he didn't think so.
as she said she had better let him get back to work, he shrugged. "i am finished in thirty minutes." he said as he looked at the clock and looked back to her. "final band is up." he said, nodding towards the stage before looking at her once more. "you want more jobs, you let me know, yes?" he asked as he looked at her guitar. it was pretty nice he had to admit and suddenly he felt like going home and playing his own.

"Of course I'll let you know." She nodded and a grin from ear to ear appeared on her face. "Oh really?" She begun. "I'm going to go and find something to eat, I am starving. I haven't had anything to eat since I got here this morning. Do you want to meet up after you're done with the last show?" Lauren tilted her head to the side curiously. She hoped he didn't feel obligated to but something told her if he really didn't want to he would say no. He came off as one of those honest people who would tell you what was actually on their mind. She was just being nice though there was something that kept her interested and she wanted to know more.
Lauren remembered she'd left her bag in the car and hoped she would have enough money for lunch. If not that they would at least take credit or debit cards. She re-adjusted the guitar case on her shoulder as it began to get heavy. Plus she needed to put this thing back in the trunk, it's not like she was even going to carry it around the rest of the evening. This turned out to be a better one than she'd originally planned.
