This was definitely one of the best nights of her life. The more time she spent with Benji the more she fell in love with him, and the more she fell in love with him, the more secure and... well, it was that warm fuzzy feeling that you get when you're in love and you feel like nothing could ever ruin this for you, like you're sky high and headed for the stratosphere. There wasn't really any way to describe the feeling, but she knew she liked it. Of course it was a feeling she was all too familiar with since she fell in love so easily, but she had a feeling that this time it wouldn't be the same. Of course she knew there was a chance it wouldn't work out, and they would either just always be friends or they would get together and break up or something like that... but being the optimist that she was, Jasmine was hoping that this time it would be different, and things wouldn't turn out the way they had before. His response had been just what she had expected... what she had hoped, and she felt the heat flush into her face. She really hoped it was true, because if he was ever disappointed in her then she'd feel like shit. She hated disappointing people, though she couldn't say she ever really had... well except Jeremy when she went against her better judgment and went out with her last boyfriend who Jeremy had warned her about, telling her that he was the king of the arrogant, self-centered, ego-inflated bastards, but she wouldn't listen to reason and ended up getting herself hurt again. As far as she knew that was the only time she had disappointed someone. Still... she didn't like doing it, which was why she had the hardest time saying no. She was afraid that if she said no she would disappoint them... and what if she said no to them, and they turned out to be as nice as she thought they were? She looked up at him almost expectantly, anticipating what he was about to say. She wanted to know what he was thinking, and he seemed almost hesitant to say it... could it be possible that he was going to say he liked her? She quickly forced herself to stop thinking that, he probably wasn't, and she didn't want to get her hopes up. Then he said that he couldn't wait to hear her play, and flashed a spectacular smile that she could have sworn she saw more in, but didn't want to read too much into it. Oh... right, sorry. She said, feeling butterflies building up in her stomach. She told herself that it was just the fact that she was going to play her music for someone for the first time and she was nervous, but she knew that was only a part of it. She bit her lip slightly, trying to decide on which song she should play. She didn't have many to choose from, but she wasn't sure which was her best. When she had decided, she looked up at him still a bit nervous, but doing a good job of looking calm. Okay... it's called Facing Up, and... well it's not very good, but here goes nothing I guess... She hesitated a moment, gathering the chords in her head before starting to play them on her guitar. When she finished the intro, she hesitated a moment, took a deep breath, closed her eyes, then resumed her playing and started into the lyrics. A little bit in, her voice cracked just slightly with nervousness and threw her off slightly, and she cringed, keeping her eyes closed, trying to imagine she was alone on the beach like she had been before, and got herself back on track. Throughout the entirety of the song she didn't open her eyes. She didn't like to see the looks on peoples faces when she was singing... she was too afraid it would be a pained expression just hoping the song would end soon. When she had finished, she just sat there for a moment, eyes still closed, hoping she hadn't been completely horrible. After a moment, she opened her eyes, and looked over at Benji almost timidly. She could take criticism when it was given out, but again, she didn't want to disappoint, and he'd been so excited to hear her music that she would feel just awful if she was horrible and it was nothing like he was expecting... though she supposed she couldn't change that now, so there was nothing she could do about it except hope for the best. song

The oceans warm and the tunes are chill We're staying here till we get our fill. He never realized how cute she was when she blushed. Oh, how he wished he had the courage to tell her that and all the other things that he had bottled up but just...not yet. It didn't seem like the right time and besides, she probably didn't feel the same way about him. They had taken an instant like to each other, sparking a friendship but Benji wished that it sparked something more. He truly wanted to take her on a date, just the two of them hanging out. His house was definitely out because he didn't want to expose her to his family life, at least not yet. Maybe after they enjoyed the sunset, they could go hang out at her house for a little while. Maybe he could tell her then and if it ended on bad terms, he could just leave instead of having the awkward drive back to her house. He was sure it would be fine and maybe, just maybe they could become more then just friends. There she went again and it almost broke her heart. What could have possibly happened to her to make her doubt herself that much. " Jazz, I know that any song that you sing will sound awesome." Sure, he hadn't even heard her sing yet, but he was quite sure that he was right. Nothing she did would ever be bad or disappointing and he wouldn't quit until she knew that just like he did. When she began her song, it was if the whole world disappeared. All he heard was her voice and all he saw was her flawless face. Benji couldn't even tell that she had made a mistake, for whatever she did was perfect. In Benji's eyes, she could never make a mistake. When she finished, she gave him a stare that he was sure screamed 'how bad was I'. " Jazz, that was simply awesome." Yes he meant it, and he was sure to make her believe it too. After a few moments, he slowly rose to his feet and tenderly gripped her hand to help her up. Their hands almost seemed to fit together and if they were made to be together but he had to pull away slowly so he could bend down and pick up his surfboard. " Come on Jazzy, time to make you shred the waves like a pro." This would give him a great excuse to hold her hand even if she only believed it was to make sure she didn't fall off, to him it would mean much more. He slowly waded in and then held the board steady so Jasmine could climb on. He decided to shoot out the question. " Hey, I don't have a curfew and I'm not sure if you do but....I was wondering if...maybe..you wanted to stay and watch the sun...sunset." He blushed a bit as he began to trip over his words. He hoped she said yes and it would even give him a reason to get closer to her.

Jasmine was honestly quite surprised that Benji thought it was "awesome." She expected that from Jeremy and her parents, but she honestly didn't think anyone else would really think she was good. Really nothing had happened to cause her to doubt herself like she did... she just always had, and again she blamed Jeremy. He was, as had been said by a lot of people, including his friends, over-confident and cocky... but he could get away with it, since most of it was true. The way Jasmine saw it, so long as she didn't talk herself up, people wouldn't be disappointed if she wasn't as good as they were expecting. Aside from becoming just another statistic, disappointing people was one of the biggest things Jasmine feared. She wasn't really sure why, she just really didn't want to, and as long as no one really expected anything from her they wouldn't ever be disappointed in her.
Then he reached down and took her hand, declaring that he was going to teach her how to surf now. She was both excited and nervous. She'd never been much good at the whole balancing deal. As Benji would probably learn quite soon, Jasmine was sort of a clumsy person. She tripped over things that weren't there, she walked into things, she lost her balance for no apparent reason... she definitely wasn't a very coordinated person. She was okay with that though... it was just a part of who she was. She had a feeling it would take a while before she would get a hang of this... most likely days, but hey, if it meant she got to spend more time with Benji, she was all for it. She was really enjoying her time with him, and she would definitely be willing to do just about anything with him any day of the week.
She followed him out into the waves, loving the feeling of the salty water lapping against her. Then Benji stopped, and she assumed she was supposed to get up on the board. Just as she was about to do so, he started saying something... asking her if she wanted to stay and watch the sunset with him. She could feel her heart flutter at the thought. Watching sunsets was something people did when they were dating or else really liked each other. She didn't know if maybe it was different in Australia, but at that point she didn't really care too much. One thing she did know was that she really liked him, and when he asked if her she wanted to stay and watch the sun go down... well, she was just really really hoping that he liked her too. The more she dwelled on the thought, the more she forgot about surfing, and the more she thought about being with him... as in being his girlfriend, not just his friend.
Just then, for whatever reason, she decided that for once in her life she was going to step out on a limb, and see what happened. It wasn't like her to take risks on a whim like that, but this time, she was going to give it a go, and for the first time actually be a little bit more bold than she usually was. She stepped further from the board, and closer to him to the point that they were just barely not touching. She looked up at him with the smile that said quite obviously that he had stolen her heart and she didn't want it back. I would love to. She said, tentatively moving her hands up and around to the back of his neck. She pushed herself up onto her tip toes so she was more level with him, and ever so softly pressed her lips against his. Jasmine let it linger for a moment or two, before pulling back slowly, suddenly realizing that there was a good chance she'd just made their friendship awkward as hell if he didn't like her in that way.
Her heart was still pounding in her chest, threatening to just leap out into the waves. Sorry... she said a tiny bit timidly, I don't normally do that... She was really hoping she hadn't just ruined everything, since well... if she had she would feel absolutely horrible for ruining a good thing and losing the first friend she'd made in a long long time. She really liked Benji, and she simply couldn't help herself. She was sort of embarrassed by it, and could feel the heat in her cheeks again. What could she say? She was a hopeless romantic, always had been, and most likely always would be. It was just in her nature, and who was she to go against her nature?

He looked down at her face and saw the smile that almost made his heart explode from his chest. Maybe she did feel the same way about him and if she did, nothing could bring his mood down. When she wrapped his hands around his neck, his hair stood on end. If this truely was a dream, he never wanted to wake up. He slowly wrapped his arms around her waist, a reflex and waited for the magical moment. He wondered if he would feel the fireworks that were often talked about in movies. Benji was getting his hopes up though, maybe she just wanted to whisper something.
When their lips met, time seemed to stop. He closed his eyes and just enjoyed the moment. There was definitely a spark. No, more then a spark but an enormous explosion. There was no way he could hide his feeling towards her anymore and if she had the courage to kiss him, he would force himself to muster up the courage to kiss her back. He never wanted this moment to end but unfourtunatly he could feel her pull away, his head following her movement. He couldn't believe that she had actually apoligized for making him the happiest that he had been for months. He drew his face quite close to hers, forehead touching hers and gave her a smile that said that she had truly stolen his heart before uttering, "Don't worry about it. But perhaps I should get you back." With that, he placed his palms on her cheeks and then closed the gap between them, placing a light but passionate kiss upon her lips.
He felt the explosion again and knew that she had truly stolen his heart. He could feel his heart pounding almost going through his chest and into the salty brine. He reluctantly pulled away with a smug little grin on his face. " I'm sorry but there is just something about you that drives me crazy." He didn't mean it in a mean way but more in an affectionate, how did I ever live without you kind of way. All thoughts of surfing left his mind and were replaced by thoughts of the two of them of a couple. He lifted her up quite easily and placed her on his surfboard. It made them almost level and he could actually look into her eyes. They were a beautiful brown color, which contrasted with his ice blue eyes. " I've been wanting to say this for a while Jasmine. I like you Jazz and I hope you feel the same way." At this moment, he couldn't wait for the sunset.

To be perfectly honest, Jasmine was more afraid of his reaction to her kissing him than she had been of his reaction to her music. Yes, she loved music, ever since Jeremy had made her realize what an escape it could be she had been in love with it. She didn't think she was all that great, but with music she found a way to express herself that she hadn't ever known before. She could write about the way she felt after some guy used her. She could write about all the crazy things she and Jeremy did. She could write about literally anything she wanted to. Music was important to her, and if she was told she was bad at it, she would feel quite crushed and quite disheartened, so obviously Benji's opinion on her music meant a lot to her... really it meant more than just a lot. It actually meant the world that he approved and thought she was good at it.
But now here she was, more afraid that he didn't like he than she had been afraid he wouldn't like her music. Of course if he didn't like her, she would be completely heartbroken and more than likely totally distressed about it. She would probably never go out on a limb and make the first move for fear of it ending like that again. She had such a problem with being bold... sometimes she really wished she could be more like Jeremy who was completely unafraid of anything. He didn't mind walking into a room of 1000 adults he didn't know and talking about some very controversial issue and bluntly stating that they were wrong and he was right, of course explaining why as well. Jasmine couldn't even walk into a room with five people she knew and talking about something they all agreed on. They were quite the opposite and sometimes she wished they could give a little of their personalities to one another.
When she heard Benji say she shouldn't worry about it she was a little worried that he meant she just didn't have to say she was sorry but he didn't have feelings for her, but then he said he should get her back for it. For a moment those words echoed through her head, and before she could even realize what they meant, he was kissing her, and she suddenly felt quite breathless. She leaned towards him just slightly so that she was lightly pressed up against him. The butterflies in her stomach were doing acrobatics, and her heart was racing at a million miles an hour. She didn't want the moment to ever end, and it felt like it wasn't going to. It kind of felt like time was just standing still, as clique as it sounded. She didn't even have to think twice about kissing him back, it just came naturally like that was the way it was supposed to be.
When he pulled away and said there was just something about her that drove him crazy, she smiled adoringly at him. I think I'm okay with crazy... She said only half teasingly. If this was him crazy, then she was definitely okay with crazy. Then he lifted her so effortlessly up onto the surfboard, so that they were just about eye to eye. She loved that he made it seem like she didn't weigh a thing. Sure, if she thought about it, she would realize that the fact that a guy could lift her that easily also meant that they could do just about anything they wanted to her and she wouldn't be able to resist, but for now, she just loved it. The smile on her face definitely wasn't going anywhere now for a long time. She couldn't imagine being more happy than she was right now, and if she could be well she could wait for that day, because right now she was definitely in a state of bliss and was perfectly happy with it.
I absolutely feel the same way. She said brightly, her brown eyes sparkling with happiness. Today was definitely the best day she'd had in... well forever. Most guys always went straight to making the first move, and although most guys would probably find it strange, Jasmine actually liked Benji's hesitance. To her it felt like he actually cared, and was actually afraid of moving too soon for her liking, and she definitely liked being taken into consideration in these situations. She wasn't a play thing for guys to use until they were tired of her, and with Benji she didn't feel like that at all, and that made her indescribably happy.

Benji had no idea that their little encounter in the gym would lead to something like this. He made a complete fool of himself when he smacked himself with the basketball. How they met didn't matter though, what matter was the fact that they met. In only a few short hours, Jasmine was able to cause Benji to become weak in the knees. He knew that they were moving a little fast but there was no room for common sense in his love struck head. If he was crazy now, he never wanted to be sane again. He grabbed her hand and just held it, hoping this day would never end. All the things that happened today were in the past and all the events that would happen in the future no longer mattered as long as Jasmine was a part of it.
When she told him that she felt the same way about him, he could feel his eyes beginning to sting. Finally a girl who wasn't only with him because of his looks or because they wanted easy sex. Other then Lily, Jasmine was the only girl who made him feel the way he did and Lily was far away on the other side of the world. He still held her hand, fearing that he let go she would leave. He knew deep down that Jasmine would never do that but it was just a little fear of his. He wrapped her in a warm hug. " You don't realize how relieved and happy I am to hear you say that." It was true but he stopped himself from letting out one single tear.
Why was he this emotional? Guys weren't supposed to be like this, they were supposed to be viewed as strong figures who were never hurt by anything. Fact was, guys are sensitive and are hurt rather easily, they just shrug it off and let it go. He had almost mastered this skill, being mellow and isolated in a corner for most of his school life here, hiding all emotions he had. The brick wall that he had put up was crumbling now and he knew that Jasmine had to be the cause. She had caused his emotions to go into overload which must be the reason, but really if Jasmine was the cause then he couldn't be happier.
He pulled away from her and then softly gripped her shoulders. " Listen Jasmine. I want to be there for you every step of the way. If that means waking up at three in the morning to pick you up and drive you somewhere then so be it. Don't ever hesitate to call me. I will always make time for you." He would give her his number when they returned to the shore, which it seemed like they would soon for the sky was already turning a nice orangey red.

Jasmine was all too aware of how quickly this was moving. Most relationship took a long time to get beyond just friends, and here they were just a few hours into knowing each other... they were practically strangers... but already they'd kissed and told one another that they liked each other. Jeremy was not going to be too pleased about this, especially after she'd told him that it wasn't like that and they were just friends... not to mention only just meeting today. While Jeremy was more than willing to be a friend to everyone, he wasn't willing to trust everyone right off the bat like Jasmine was, and people had to work a little harder than just being nice for him to trust them. He was more hesitant to trust people when it came to Jasmine. He knew how vulnerable and easily persuaded she was, and he also knew that a lot of guys knew that and would take advantage of it. Maybe she just wouldn't tell him about this yet.
As far as she could remember, Jasmine hadn't ever gone out with a guy because of looks... and she definitely hadn't ever gone out with a guy because of sex. If it weren't for her desire to make everybody happy without figuring herself into the equation, she would definitely still be a virgin. She'd even come home crying after her first time because she hadn't really wanted to, but she was afraid to say no... that was the first of her boyfriends who Jeremy had beat up. He didn't really look like the kind of guy who would be much good at fighting, but he sure as hell had given that guy a black eye and a broken nose... being 6'4" probably helped him out a little there. Anyway, Jasmine had only ever gone out with a guy because she thought he liked her, because he was nice to her, and because he had asked her out and she just didn't have the guts to say no.
She was most definitely here with Benji because she liked him though. Even if they weren't really technically going out, they knew they liked each other, and that was step one. They'd sort of taken something like step three first when she'd kissed him, but hey... it worked right? They were definitely going to have to slow things down a bit soon though, otherwise they'd be married by the end of the month at the rate they were going. One thing was for sure though, she felt incredibly safe and comfortable when his arms were wrapped around her. She couldn't recall ever feeling like that with any of her previous boyfriends... but then again none of them had really been into hugging and pretty much were only interested in sex. She was guessing that Benji wasn't like that, but if... and she was sure when... they got to that point in their relationship she would be quite willing.
She could very easily stay here all night if she didn't have to worry about Jeremy getting worried about her and coming to look for her. She loved her brother, but sometimes he just got a little too protective. She smiled brightly when he said he was relieved and happy she'd said that, I'm pretty sure you have no idea how relieved I was to hear you say that after I kissed you. she said with a slight laugh. If he'd reacted differently to her kissing him then they would have had a big problem. Thankfully though he had reacted just exactly how she had hoped it would and they were problem free. He then went on to say that if she ever needed him she could call him any time she wanted to, and while she was sure she wouldn't need to call him at 3 a.m, she was definitely grateful of that. A lot of times it was difficult to even find Jeremy when she needed help with something since he was almost always off doing something insane with random people in random places that you would never guess.
I think you're turning out to be my hero Benji She said biting her lip cutely. Every time he said something he was making her fall for him even more. Before long she was going to be completely emotionally attached to him and he would be all she could think about... in a good way. it's not every day I find someone who will drop everything for me. She really meant that too. So far he was the only guy who had even offered anything like that for her sake, and she really appreciated him doing that, more than he probably knew. So much had happened between them in one day, she couldn't even imagine what was going to happen in one week, or even one month, but she had a wonderful feeling that it was going to be good.

He cocked his head to the side when she told him that she was relieved that he said that after she kissed him. Benji was pretty certain that if she didn't kiss him, he would have kissed her. He was relieved that she had made the first move because he was worried that if he made the first move, she would think he would have other intentions on his mind. OK sure it was on his mind, he was a guy it was basically impossible to remove it from their heads but he would never pressure or urge Jasmine to move forwards. He remembered his first time and it was the farthest from enjoyable.
He had been invited to his friend John's annual major blow-out. It was always an awesome experience and he couldn't wait to make his appearance. He was sure that there were going to be some hot girls and the fact that he didn't have a girl friend was even better. When he pulled up to the front of the house, the first thing he heard was the blasting music. He went up to the front of the house and with a deep breath entered the party. Quite a few drinks later, Benji had begun to talk to this one girl, Kassie and before he knew what had happened they were in the bedroom.
He regretted his decision and really did wish that he was still a virgin. Drunken sex wasn't all it was cracked up to be and the fact that he couldn't even remember half of the stuff that happened that night wasn't very reassuring. Sure, he had gotten in touch with her later on but they just didn't have that much in common and so they went their separate ways and rarely ever saw each other. He couldn't remember if he had used protection, though he was sure he did because he hadn't gotten any calls from her declaring him a father.
He was happy that she felt safe with him and the fact that she called him her hero made him turn a bright shade of pink. " Ha ha thanks. If I'm your hero then your my kryptonite." What he meant was that she was his one weakness. "It's not everyday that you find an amazing girl who you are willing to drop everything for." He smiled down at her when he said this. At this moment he was completely focused on Jasmine. He stared into those warm, brown eyes and lost all trace of thought.

At this very moment, Jasmine probably wouldn't have noticed if there was a tsunami coming straight towards them. All she had eyes for was Benji, and getting her to pay attention to much else was going to be a near impossible task. Everything he said made her feel completely adored, not to mention important, and that was as feeling she hadn't ever gotten from any of her previous boyfriends. With them, she just felt that they liked her because they wanted to have sex with her and knew she would be easy to get into bed. Her first time had definitely been less than enjoyable as well... thus the crying when she came home. The guy had been completely inconsiderate of the fact that she was still a virgin, and really didn't care that the only reason she was doing it was because he'd asked her to... even though she really didn't want to. She'd been to afraid to speak up.
She'd slept with several guys since then... each of them proclaiming to like her, but really only wanting one thing. Of course each time Jasmine was too afraid to say no and tell them she didn't want to have sex, so she just went right along with it. Yes, it was true, Jasmine didn't have much of a back bone, and when it came to standing up for herself, she was really no good at it at all. Occasionally she would sort of say that she kind of didn't really feel like it... but in the end they would persuade her, simply because she couldn't say no. Even though in reality none of the guys she'd been with were the sort of guy to physically abuse a girl or physically force her into doing something she didn't want to do, Jasmine was just afraid that they might, and she didn't want to get hurt, so she always just said yes.
She knew all too well that sex was at least partially on Benji's mind... he wouldn't be a guy if it wasn't, and then she'd have an even bigger problem. But somehow, that concept didn't bother her at all. Just the way he treated her, and the way he talked to her... she knew he wasn't going to hurt her, and she knew he wasn't going to make her do something she didn't want to do. It would probably be a while before they slept together since Jasmine had only just gotten out of a bad relationship not long ago. She knew he would wait until she was ready though, and she wasn't worried about that at all... in fact, at the moment she wasn't really even thinking about that. All she could think about was what had happened today and how happy he made her feel.
In so many ways she saw similarities between herself and Benji, and though most people said that it was opposites that attracted... well, it definitely wasn't the case here. A guy that was the opposite of Jasmine Scott would be someone who had absolutely no belief in love, and was, lets face it, a complete asshole. Jasmine didn't want someone like that, she didn't need someone like that, and Jeremy would never let someone like that within ten feet of her. Benji, as far as she could tell, was perfect for her. He was considerate, sweet, non-judgmental, and essentially everything Jasmine had been looking for in a guy. Unfortunately for her, a lot of guys were good at pretending to be all those things when really they weren't.
She lifted her hands and put them on Benji's arms, completely enamored by him. He seemed so honest and true, she really felt like she could tell him anything, and that he would tell her the truth about anything she asked him, whether she would like the truth or not... something most guys would never do. They thought flattery was the way to go all the time, lying about things that were important just so they could keep her coming back. Where did you learn to be so nice? she asked not really expecting an answer, I've never met anyone like you. Sure she had met plenty of nice people... but they just didn't measure up to him, and she wasn't sure why. Possibly because she was madly in love with Benji and hadn't been with them... but why didn't really matter. All that mattered right now was that she was with him, and they were happy.

Benji had actually had a terrific day. When the day first started out, it had started like all the others. His step-father screaming and his mother crying. Benji was sick and tired of it and could remember that he had said something to piss Gerry off but he couldn't really recall what. He was sure that it was something that defended either his mom or Sam, but whatever it was it made Gerry mad. He remembered seeing the hand come down and the stinging sensation that soon followed after. He knew that what Gerry was doing was wrong and if he could get up the courage to report it, it would soon be over but he just couldn't do that to his mom. As hard as it was to accept it, she loved Gerry and Benji didn't want to ruin her happiness so he just accepted the fact.
School hadn't been much better. As per usual, he was ignored for basically the whole day and just couldn't bear to sit by himself in the cafeteria so instead he decided to go to the gymnasium to practice his basketball. When he got there he didn't even notice that there was another person there, one that would soon alter his day. They had hit it off immediately and even though Jasmine was a bit shy and timid towards him, she soon opened up to him. His day had suddenly became a great day and all the drama that had happened in the morning was forgotten. The day at the beach had been amazing, they had played in the water and even actually kissed and told each other that they liked each other.
He leaned forwards and kissed her gently on her forehead. " That is another story for another time." Benji couldn't tell her his situation...at least not yet. He didn't want to worry her and maybe scare her off. Benji knew that the reason that he was so kind had to be because of his current situation. He had to show that kids in abusive families didn't always end up becoming exactly like their parent. This wasn't the only reason, Benji was just a great guy but this was a definite factor. " I'm just like any other guy out there. But you are one amazing girl and I am truly honored that I actually got the chance to meet you. Now...perhaps we should get to surfing. The sunset is getting pretty close and I would hate to miss it." He held the surfboard steady so she could stand up and waited for the lesson to begin.

It's a well known fact that the girls who are sweet, shy, and innocent, are the ones who are most frequently taken advantage of since, well, lets face it, the strong willed ones know how to fight back much better than the ones who bend to the will of those around them. Jasmine Scott was one of those sweet innocent girls. Peer pressure was a huge thing to her, and she would do just about anything if someone tried to talk her into it. She was always seeking to please those around her, to keep them happy. Especially guys... she always did whatever they asked her to because she was simply afraid that if she didn't, they would hurt her. No, she hadn't ever been mistreated by a guy... well not as in violence. No one had ever hurt her physically... plenty of them had broken her heart, plenty of them had used her... but no one had ever really hurt her.
So why was she afraid that they would hurt her? She honestly couldn't answer that question... she just was. Maybe it was because she had seen so many people around her get hurt... she had heard so many accounts of girls being raped and abused that she was afraid if she didn't do what they wanted her to that she would become just another statistic... just another girl who was taken advantage of... just another girl who got mixed up with the wrong guy and ended up dead because of it. That was the last thing she wanted... and she figured that as long as she kept them happy that wouldn't ever happen to her. Of course, little did she know she was being taken advantage of every time she did something just to keep them happy.
When she was 13 she got her first boyfriend... and she of course thought she was in love and would spend the rest of her life with him. Of course it hadn't lasted long, and she ended up completely heart broken. By the time she reached 14 she had gone through several other guys as well, and by the time she had reached 15... well, she had quite the reputation... not as a whore though, as some would expect... her reputation was more that of someone who was simple-minded... easy... a hopeless romantic who let her heart run away from her and got into things without thinking. It was unfortunate really, considering most people tended to veer away from the ones they considered simple minded. But as it were, the fewer friends she had, the closer she got to her brother, and the closer she got to her brother, the closer she got to music, just like he was... almost.
As she fell more in love with music, she started falling for guys less often... of course she still fell for them on a regular basis, just not nearly as much as she had before. When she was 15 she lost her virginity to one of the popular guys in the school, even though she hadn't really wanted to, he had, and of course she had to make him happy... so she just went along with it. She came home crying after that, and when Jeremy finally got her to tell him what was wrong, he'd been well beyond pissed... and what older brother wouldn't be mad at some guy for making his little sister cry because he didn't care enough about her to make sure that was what she wanted too? So Jeremy went out to go "deal with the issue" and of course in big brother language that mean beat the shit out of the guy. He wasn't much of a fighter, but his 6'4" towered over the guy's 5'10" and rather intimidating. The next morning by second period everyone knew that the black eye the guy was sporting was courtesy of Jeremy Scott because the guy had "screwed with the wrong guy's little sister" and after that people started being more careful around Jasmine... and not many guys used her anymore... that was why she loved her brother... he could really surprise people.
Benji was totally different than all those other guys, and she didn't know why. She also didn't know why he said it was a different story for a different time. She wasn't going to push it, but she was definitely curious. Jasmine was just so naturally trusting, if someone said they didn't want to talk about something, she wouldn't try to make them. The way she saw it, he would tell her on his own time whenever he was ready, and there was no sense in being inconsiderate and trying to force it out of him. It was a private matter, and if he didn't want to talk about it, she was just fine with that. The same way Jeremy didn't like to talk about Brittany, she was sure he had things he didn't want to talk about. Sure some people say that there shouldn't be secrets in relationships, but to Jasmine that made no sense. People should be able to trust one another without knowing a thing about them when they loved them... and even if she wasn't sure she could call this love just yet, she trusted Benji, and wasn't concerned about any secrets he might have.
Then he suggested that they get to surfing before the sunset really got going, and she nodded with a bit of uncertainty, ookay... she said, knowing that she was definitely going to end up falling off more than once tonight. but no laughing when I fall off. she added with a smile as she cautiously pulled her feet up onto the board and rather slowly and unsteadily stood up on it. She was glad this was Benji she was doing it with... anyone else would have made her feel quite self conscious and she probably wouldn't have done it. With him though, she felt perfectly fine about what she was doing, and couldn't have been more happy to do it with him.

" Don't worry. I promise I won't." He slowly moved the surfboard into the deeper water so if she fell off, she wouldn't hit her head on the ocean floor. It was also so they would get a bit more seclusion, away from the beach shore where hundreds of eyes would be watching them. He didn't want people to watch Jasmine because if she fell, she would perhaps be very embarrassed and not give it another try. If it was just her and him, perhaps she would be a bit more optimistic. He could feel the waves beginning to pick up so he quickly grabbed Jasmine's arms and swayed with her, following the rhythm of the waves. " Just hold on OK." They were out there for at least an hour and soon the water was beginning to get an orange tinge.
The sunset was approaching so he gently grabbed Jasmine's waist and placed her into the lukewarm, salty water. " Come on, the sunset's starting." He grabbed the surfboard and ran over to the shore. He walked over to their spot and laid down on his towel. The atmosphere changed from a busy, fun filled one to a calm, almost romantic vibe. He was getting a little chilly since the sun was going down and with it the temperature. He could feel himself shaking and playfully patted Jasmine's towel. "Come on, it's about to start!" He was kinda cold but it would give him a good excuse to cuddle with Jasmine.
As the sun disappeared below the horizon, the sky was suddenly filled with a array of colors. Violet, orange and a slight tinge of crimson red filled the sky. It truly was a terrific sight and being her with Jasmine was a giant bonus. He slowly wrapped his arm around Jasmine's shoulder and stared off at the horizon. " Jazz, I am so happy I got to share this experience with you. I still can't believe that I met a person as amazing as you." When the sunset was over, he would drive back to her house. Maybe she would invite him inside and their wonderful night wouldn't be over. He could still enjoy this awesome day until he would have to eventually return home and receive his punishment for staying out too late.

It didn't take long for Jasmine's belief that she wasn't a very coordinate or balanced person to be proven true. Part of it may have been that she was expecting to fall off so she did... but it was also because she was horrible at balancing. She sort of tripped over things that weren't there all the time, and would randomly lose her balance for no reason when she was just standing in the hall... so surfing wasn't really going to be second nature to her. This one she couldn't blame on Jeremy though. Everybody always thought "he's tall, he must be good at basketball and other sports" but no... Jeremy was worse than she was at being coordinated. Essentially the only skill he possessed was self confidence and music. He really wasn't good at much else, and he would be the first to admit that. Music was really all he had a passion for, and it was all he cared to be good at.
Jasmine would really have liked to be good at other things, but unfortunately, she sort of wasn't. But she'd come to terms with that a while ago, and it didn't really bother her much anymore. Besides, tonight Benji was making her feel like music was the greatest thing in the world to be good at, and he was making her feel like she really was really good at it. No guy had ever made her feel that way... even Jeremy hadn't. Somehow the compliments meant more coming from Benji than they did from Jeremy... probably just because Jeremy was her overprotective older brother and Benji was the guy she liked, and was so far the only guy she wasn't related to who actually showed any interest in the things she liked to do instead of just trying to get her to do the one and only thing that they wanted to do.
After falling off for about the millionth time, Benji brought her attention to the fact that the sunset had started... which she hadn't noticed since she was having so much fun with him. She followed him up out of the water and plopped down on the towel beside him, deliberately sitting about as close to him as she could without being in his lap. she wasn't trying to be overly clingy or anything, she just wanted to be close to him. She smiled up at him when he said he still couldn't believe he'd met someone as amazing as her. I still can't believe I met someone patient enough to deal with my inability to surf She said, still unable to wipe the smile off her face. She had definitely fallen for him, and Jeremy was never going to let her hear the end of it... but she didn't care. She wasn't going to runaway because she got hurt. It was only life, and you only got to live one of them, so why not live it to the fullest?

OK, so the surfing lesson hadn't been a blockbuster success but he didn't assume that she would be perfect at it on her first attempt. Benji wasn't, in fact he was even worse but constant practice made him into a professional surfer. Before he moved here from Australia, it was almost impossible to get him out of the ocean. Now, after months of being away from the sapphire waves and clear sky, he was back. Jasmine made this experience almost one hundred times better and he just never wanted this day to end. Sooner or later however, the day would disappear just like the beautiful sunset and he would be forced back into his hell of a home. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her as close as he could. He wanted to feel her close to him, to be sure that this wasn't a dream and any second he would be awakened by his step-dad's fist.
When he was sure that this wasn't some kind of fantasy, he placed his head on Jasmine's shoulder. " You know, when this day started I thought it was going to be the same as any other day. You definitely changed my mind. When I hit my face with that basketball, I thought you were gonna think I was some kind of jock with no brains. I'm glad you actually gave me a chance." He stopped himself before he revealed too much about his family life. The abuse was definitely another story for another time. " Dude, don't even worry about it. When I first started, I was WAY worse then you." It was true, in fact after he fell off he had actually sprained his ankle. Too bad he didn't have a teacher who showed him how to do it.
ooc: sorry i scraped what I could so I could reply.

Sunset was definitely Jasmine's favorite time of day. In her opinion it was definitely the most beautiful thing in the whole world. During the day the ocean just sort of melded into the sky and differentiating the water from the sky was often difficult... but at sunset, it seemed like the whole world just came alive. It was like looking at an ever changing painting of brilliant colors streaked across the smooth canvas with no particular order or pattern. Sunsets were like snowflakes, no one was ever the same as the one before it. She could definitely get a lot of inspiration just by sitting out here and watching the sun sink below the horizon... up until now though, she hadn't had anyone to share the experience with, no one to make it worthwhile. Watching the sunset by yourself was never much fun, and she preferred it much more here with Benji now, it made it a lot more special.
I'm glad you didn't just pass me off as that shy girl in the corner... she said, an adoring smile on her face, most people don't ever even notice me. Most of the time, not being noticed was sort of her own fault though. She always kept to herself and never really tried to talk to people she didn't know. They say "to make a friend you have to be a friend" but Jasmine was just too shy to make friends of people she hadn't ever met before. She was a bit socially challenged when it came to that sort of thing, though she really had no reason to be. Aside from being taken advantage of by all her past "boyfriends" no one had ever mistreated her, so her fear of people she didn't know was really rather irrational... but that was just who she was, and she couldn't really change that on her own.
Talking to people her own age that she didn't know as hard for her, and talking to adults she didn't know was even harder. She always felt like they were all critiquing her and looking for every minor flaw in everything she did instead of seeing everything right that she was doing. It probably wasn't true, but that was jut the way she felt. I highly doubt you were worse than that. She said with a laugh. Even though she had been horrible at it, she'd had a lot of fun while he attempted to teach her to surf. He definitely had a lot of patience, that was for sure. Jasmine was falling for him more and more every second she was with him, and by now she was quite hopelessly lost in him, and she didn't really want to be found.
